On a vite abandonne!

It sucks being 6"5' because people get shitty with you blocking their view.

DJ Nick Toth did a mad warm up set too, loads of dub mixed using two turntables and Final Scratch.

Lindum. Never heard of you before last week. You're near Wynnum. This week, I had to take a bus and train to get to you for employment related business. That's the thing about Brisbane, it's so damn spread out, there are all these places most people have never even heard of, let alone visited. There's a reason for that. A good one.

I exited the train and started walking. Past the service station, following the given directions. Residential. Nothing but homes. Odd sculptures in someone's front yard. Where is the commercial real estate? I'm going the wrong way. Must be. They've given me the wrong address. Keep going, around the bend. Fields. Cocky's gates and bathtub troughs. More houses. Mangroves. Creek. Very quiet, no cars, no other pedestrians.

At this point, my internal dialogue went something like this:

"Hmmm. This is a serial killer's wet-mangrove-body-dump-dream. In 2 weeks, a local with no teeth is going to find my body in the swamp, half eaten by mud crabs... Ok, too much Wire In The Blood."

Now, I'm from a working class background (I grew up in a rural area no less) so I don't usually like to throw the proverbial elitist stone. I was quite looking forward to seeing a new part of Brisbane, actually... but... when you're walking down the street and you find yourself dodging used tampons and condoms... I say just start pelting those stones like the street's a biblical martyr.

A fitting aroma for the days' excursion was provided by the mangroves. Mmmm. Rotty.

I got the impression that the road might be frequented by trucks. Then it dawned on me. Hooker-Trucker stop! Ladies and gentlemen! Just because you are engaging in such activities doesn't mean you have to throw hygiene to the wind. I don't even want to imagine what's getting washed away when the tide is actually in those estuaries.

No street sweepers in Lindum, apparently.

All of this is in very close proximity to a church. I won't name the specific domination, but I will say it's protestant and very American. The irony! It tickles!

The bestest (sarcasm, just to be clear) thing is, I probably have to go back there again. I will take my camera.

We also used this as an opportunity to see which areas of the Gardens they liked best for their wedding photos. It took us around four times in about twelve minutes. The view was good, but I reckon it would be better on a clear day rather than at night. Still very cool.

The cricket ground in Bangalore will suit the Aussies. It’s the ideal opportunity for them to settle into the series. I wonder who schedules these tours. I guess whoever he is, he has पणवाडी का एहेसान. On an Australian tour, the Indians are made to contend with Brisbane, Perth first up. The Aussies should have been asked start their campaign in Bombay.. we'd have skeewered the buggers.

A boring first session of play. The fat goose was sent walking in the very first over by Khan. Simon and Ricky saw them through to lunch. 75/1. Not much else to ink in except Sourav Ganguly’s poor fielding efforts on more than a couple of occasions.

The second session was equally boring if not more. There was a second or two of joy for the Indians at 2 o’clock. Simon was caught behind off the bowling of Ishant. Kumble’s field placing, well, I didn’t get it. Ones were turned into easy twos and the off side field was pierced. Khan looked lethargic on the boundary. 166/2 at tea.

At the start of the third session, Ishant looked as if he hadn’t eaten since three days. Kumble’s field placements were ordinary. He didn’t bother to field a gully whilst a spinner was bowling early on in Hussey’s innings. He put everything into his bowling though; tried very hard. Harbhajan got Ricky and then Khan got Michael Clarke late in the day. Khan was the pick of the bowlers.

Like I'd predicted yesterday, honors even at the end of the day. 254/4.

I was late for class again this morning. I HATE BEING LATE. Let me repeat that - I HATE BEING LATE.

I was late for class again this morning. I HATE BEING LATE. Let me repeat that - I HATE BEING LATE. zomg it sucks. I thought my day was destined to just be complete shit, especially after I see creep-ass truck driver to my right picking his nose while oogling my goodies. DISGUSTING. I was listening to a little classic rock, 'cause y'all know I like to keep it classy, and I heard something I never thought I would hear. I actually heard a decent Fleetwood Mac song!! Yeah, right?! Could this be the only intact song by F.M. that wasn't tainted by mind-numbingly mainstream country music? I kid, I kid. I would take a bullet for Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks. But seriously, I will take a bullet if I hear "Landslide" again. Maybe I had a bad prom experience involving a boy who decided to wear white jeans and k-swiss. And no, this wasn't 1992. It was 2005. Don't judge me.

Where was I going with this? Oh, right! An Horse is touring the U.S. fucking as we speak!! I am soo psyched to see them again. The last time I was vis-à-vis with Kate Cooper, the deliciously androgynous frontwoman, my soul was shredded to pieces. Only her horsey glue can glue it back together. That's where I was going with this - glue used to be made from horses, so it's ironic that only her glue can put it back together. Oh geez, I'm too witty for my own good. Anywho, the Brisbane-based band has been plugging along for a few years now. The sweet musings were originally constructed in the record store where both members worked and have since been filling the earphones of pubescent girls across the world! I'll be going to the show on October 20th and November 2nd. Any takers? I promise I'll drive and pay for the gas, food, potential lodging, merch, fun-times. PLEASE SOMEONE GO WITH ME. hahahaha. Their tour schedule can be found at their myspace, which I already linked, but will link it again because I'm feeling especially pleasant today.

Almost a month ago the Seattle plant of Boeing isn’t producing airplanes, because of the workers strike. Three brand new Boeing 777 airplanes have to be delivered to V Australia in order to begin its functioning. The airplanes are the 777-350ERs, which are the extended range (from here comes the ER) versions of the 777-350. This modified version was launched in early 2003, and 156 were delivered since, but another 220 are ordered not including the ones for the V Australia.

If they want to travel in that period and there isn’t an available VBAG flight, alternative flights will be arranged. Of course in each case without any extra money, all the expenses being supported by the VBAG.

The next launch team meeting is on Saturday 11th October, 4pm to dinner. Let me know if you're planning to come.

The last meeting on 20th September was a good opportunity to continue to clarify the shape that our partnership will take. A few things have resolved over the last month or so:

name:: we'll run with 'southside church' and maybe try different tag lines such as 'an independent evangelical church'. In any case, it's a name we can work with and it will communicate with outsiders.

venue:: a verbal agreement is in place and, God willing, we'll sign a rental agreement in coming weeks.

time:: Sundays at 9:30am (launch 8th February).

bible study groups:: the pattern will be one of following the sermon series

To discuss this Saturday:

kidschurch:: we haven't yet pursued a conversation about how we will structure things, though a few things were said at an earlier meeting:

There will be some kids around the place and our desire as a church will be to help their parents pastor them. That will have a range of implications.

One aspect is that we want parents to be great theologians and great examples of godliness for their children–both of which are the products of the Spirit’s work as the Scriptures are read and taught and discussed and applied.

A secondary element of our caring for kids in our congregation will most likely be providing church designed for kids during part or all of our main meeting. (To facilitate the parent-child pastoring, I’m keen for us to work at coordinating the kids’ teaching material with the preaching program.)...

Integral to pastoring our kids will be helping them grow as ministers and missionaries:

* as we meet, in their attitude of welcome and consideration of new children and speaking the truth in love to one another.
* among their peers in school and social settings.

I outlined some thoughts regarding what our kidschurch time may look like at the last meeting--essentially a duplication of the church-Bible.study package for a different age group. Kids could have some corporate time with songs, games, memory verse, Bible teaching (talk/puppet/drama/?) and then split up into smaller groups for craft, games etc as a context for clarifying, reinforcing and applying what has been taught.

youth:: from a threshold of 10 or so, younger people might stay in the pubic meeting. A forum for youth gathering with one another and some young adults to discuss, understand and apply what is preached publicly to their particular context will be helpful. Again, this is an echo of the wider paradigm and would also need to include the element of doing life together with gospel intentionality.

serving:: there are a whole realm of possibilities in terms of service, it will be helpful to hear how you feel you may be able to serve in the formal and informal aspects of our partnership. If you can't make it, please do email me some thoughts.

Do keep praying to our sovereign and merciful God.
