We have finally booked our holiday for September. Huzzah!! Due to a last minute change of mind we are going for something a little more flash than we had planned. We are now going to be staying at the Hamilton Island Beach Club. My plan for now is that on Sunday night, we stay at the Treasury Casino hotel, Monday morning we have breakfast at the Qantas Club and then we fly to the Whitsundays. Ooh la la.

Two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey, they had an argument; and one friend slapped the other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand: today my best friend slapped me in the face.

They kept on walking, until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him.

After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone: “today my best friend saved my life.”

The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, “after i hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone, why?”

The friend replied “when someone hurts us we should write it down in sand, where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it.”

Learn to write your hurts in the sand and to carve your benefits in stone. They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them.

Madalas kaming tambay sa park before or after ng class, kwentuhan, kulitan at asaran.

COULD IRONMAN BECOME REALITY?

Stephen Jacobson, a design engineer has created an exoskeleton that can increase his strength 20 times normal. It is a robotic suit that a man fits inside and can accomplish tasks that no normal human could even dream of doing. Jameson works for the development and design firm, Sarcos Inc. in Salt Lake City and is under a two year contract with the U.S. Army. Talk about reminiscent of Tony Stark and Stark industries. Though the suit is much bulkier than Ironman's streamlined sci-fi look, it is only in the beginning stages but it does operate with many of the same principles in mind. Sarcos' Jacobsen envisions factory workers someday using the technology to perform manual labor more easily, and firefighters more quickly carrying heavy gear up stairwells of burning buildings. Disabled people also may find uses for the technology. "We see the value being realized when these suits can be built in great numbers for both military and commercial uses, and they start coming down in cost to within the range of the price of a small car," said Jacobsen. From Comic to reality, we could have a bunch of Ironmen running around. I think Marvel Comics should ask for royalties on this one.

CAN'T EVEN TRUST A SCOUT ANYMORE.

A former Bethlehem, Pennsylvania woman will serve up to 23 months in prison for having her 7-year-old son dress as a Cub Scout to collect money for a nonexistent cause. Now that's just low. Sally Ann Gombocz, 51, told a Northampton County judge she wanted to apologize to anyone she hurt. I'll bet she did. Getting your kid to panhandle as a cub scout is seriously twisted. She previously pleaded guilty to theft by deception and corruption of a minor. Gombocz had her boy tell people he was raising money for a camping trip and collected all of $69. Gombocz was sentenced Friday to six to 23 months in the county slam. She also was fined $2,000, ordered to perform community service, take parenting classes, have psychological counseling and submit to random urine screens. She also must pay restitution. I wonder if it was all worth it? That's what you get for trying to give the scouts a black eye.

WHAT ARE THESE GUYS PHOTOGRAPHING?

OK, they didn't teach me about this in my photography class. Check out where these cameras are aimed. How come I never get invited to these kinds of photo ops? People are aressted for taking these kinds of pictures. Actually I've written about people arrested for taking these kinds of pictures. It appears, in Asia, anything goes, including the lens up the skirt.

GIRLFRIEND STABS BOYFRIEND ACCIDENTALLY DURING WEIRD SEX.

Catherine McCoubrey, 25, and her 24-year-old partner had been drinking heavily. It's amazing how alcohol would figure into this. He apparently asked her to carve the shape of a heart in him during what prosecutors called "rough sex" in February 2007, but unfortunately, she pressed too deeply. Someone has been living in the woods too long. Defence lawyer John McAmmond said the unnamed victim introduced his client to "body modification", and had carved himself with knives before. Get a hobby. I'm thinking, something that doesn't deal with sharp objects. McCoubrey, from Winnipeg in Canada, has now been given three years' probation after pleading guilty to assault. The boyfriend has taken her back. Someone put the knives away.

VINCE YOUNG PARTY ANIMAL

Another NFL Quarterback parties hard. Vince Young was caught in a bar in Austin, Texas, throwing back tequila with the best of them. Matt Leinart was caught about a month ago doing beer bongs with sorority girls at his house. It appears Young took this as a challenge and is trying to outdo Leinart. Vince forgot one very important thing though, the sorority girls! It appears from these pictures that Vince may have walked into the wrong bar. I wonder if they're listening to the Village People? Is this a male topless bar? Are those bedroom eyes looking at Vince in the second picture? Could he be the Tennessee Titan?

There is a lot of controversy over these topics lately and through the years. It seems to be growing

There is a lot of controversy over these topics lately and through the years. It seems to be growing at more of a rapid pace through and to the Church lately. It seems that you are fine as long as you do not promote, discuss or even alert others that you are a Christian. If you do, then you are asked to stay quiet for the greater good or to leave in silence. We are being groomed to accept the rules of the supposed majority and to resign ourselves to not questioning those with a loud voice.

[Lets define what a Christian is because it seems that many people are a little confused as to what it means. First of all, you MUST believe that the Bible is the INERRANT Word of God, without this, you cannot base a security of salvation on what the Bible says if you do not believe it is without error. Secondly, you have to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, Savior, the Son of God (Creator of heaven and earth) and that He came here to earth, lived a sinless life to die on a cross in place of you. This created a way to be able to come before God, clean from sin, because your price has been paid and you have been cleansed. You must also believe that Jesus rose from the dead 3 days later and is now in heaven sitting at the right hand of God on His thrown making intercession for you… Mary cannot do this, for there is NO other way to God but through Jesus His Son. Also, you must realize that you have sinned, done things wrong and be repentful of this (desiring with your entire being to be forgiven and are sorry for all you have done wrong). You must desire to turn from sin and earnestly – diligently – wholeheartedly walk toward Jesus in the truth of His Word.]

I am noticing recently, more than ever, that there is truly a double standard in every area. This is happening at our schools, our jobs, our online communities and even our churches. It is a sad day, when we hide our light under a bushel for the sake of peace. The world systems, especially the US government, say that you should respect those who tell you what to do, even if it goes beyond your beliefs and convictions, because people have died for your ‘freedom’ and if you don’t like it then you should move away.

Well, why can’t we look at Christianity the same way then… Others have died, suffered, gave of themselves completely, so that you could be a Christian – saved by grace and sealed for the day of redemption… so why hide yourself in quiet while others stand yelling to take away your voice and the opportunity for others to share in that ‘true freedom’ of the salvation from eternal death. Where is that respect?

This of course, will not be resolved until the Day of the Lord comes. The world must first come together under one umbrella: one religion, one government, one submission in order to accomplish what the ‘greater good’ sees as their utopian dream of glass houses and brainwave visualization. The world is becoming a cesspool of muddy water, yet they are too blind to see that it is filthy… all they see is that it is all one color and to them, that means unity. To us, Christians on the other hand, it means soon redemption… so look up, for your redemption draweth nigh.

Summer is coming and I can smell the sunblock a mile away already. "I LOVE CALI IN THE SUMMER TIME, YEAH I LOVE IT!" - Roscoe This summer is going to be a summer I will never forget. Why? Do you even have to ask!? I will be teaming up with my good friend, Dee to expand our portfolios. We will be working together on photo shoots this summer and I am very excited about it. She is more of the artistic creative director and I'm more of a photographer. The two go perfectly together so get ready summer because Dee and I will be hitting it full force. Also, summer calls for SHORT SHORTS!

My Brother, Dewey and I headed out to our local church carnival to snap some photos but we couldn't find any parking so I ended up shooting from the car. We headed to Chaya to buy some boba drinks because a nice cold drink sounded good in this hot weather. It beats staying at home in my oven for a room.

Well, here is another Dear Diary entry that will never really be read because nobody cares about my life, except for some reason, my insight on technology.

________

For some reason, everything has been a upwards battle against work, life, and well, news. At work we've been, for once again, looking at different themes for the website. Personally, I'm thinking of quitting on Gotechgeeks. The idea has been around for two years, and nothing is coming out of it. Sure, we have ideas, we have blueprints, but nothing has happened. Gotechgeeks is more like Duke Nukem Forever.

In my personal life, I've been getting ready for a trip to San Francisco from June 9th to the 17th. I've been pushing my applications on to my Macbook Pro, and I've been searching for a few cameras to take. Hopefully this one won't break. With that, technology news to post here, has been stale. It's the same old, same old. iPhone 3g (which is bringing in views to this blog, oh god, I sound like Calacanis), Piracy, Microsoft taking over another company. It gets stale after awhile. I just wish that there were a few different stories that keep on going for a week, that every day there are updates. Maybe something from Microsoft, something about Apple, something about a hardware developer, and another thing.

And with this, I end this stupid little post that no one will read.

The Transformation Seminar

The Transformation Seminar

I was one of the first one there since I'd arrived 30 minutes early (I would've gone later but the next Muni would've been 25 minutes later had I not gone on the one I did, and that was catching it close). It was really warm when I first arrived, but over the course of the seminar, it got cooler as there was a pretty nice breeze, which surprised me.

I like the fact that I recognized the opening song, We Are Hungry, which was a staple back when I went to IVCF. Joyce arrived sometime during the song. I didn't recognize the second song though.

The two main speakers today were Ed Silvoso and Bishop Mclaughlin. While there was a video by Ed Silvoso at the beginning, I'll begin with Bishop Mclaughlin since he was up for the majority of the morning segment.

Bishop Mclaughlin talked about the stuff he did in Jacksonville, Florida. Specifically, they bought this mall for $4 million and then put a lot of work renovating it and it's now a $30 million mall called Kingdom Plaza. The main thing here is the huge church inside, but it also has a lot of mall staples like bowling alleys, gyms, restaurants, offices, etc. I think he mentioned how they employed some of the formerly homeless/drug addict types in the area too so it helped make the area better, not just financially, but from a social justice point of view. The theme here is that we need to build churches that the community would miss. By becoming part of the marketplace, you are able to actually outreach to other people.

This lead into Ed Silvoso's talk for the second half of the seminar. It was material from his books, and was mainly about prayer evangelism, doing prayer walks, and basically transforming the marketplace. He has slides and videos on the Harvest Evangelical website if you want to look at them as they're pretty much the same. But to summarize, simply being religious and preaching from the pulpit (clergy) will lead to failure. Instead, you need to actually go into the marketplace, but there can be nothing without religion either. You must have both. During Jesus's time, this actually meant going to people's homes, since a lot of homes back then were also shops. In modern times, it doesn't necessarily require going out and being obnoxious at work. Simply praying and giving blessings to the people around you is incredibly helpful. One of the things they did was get everyone at a church to do prayer walks in their neighborhood. Basically go around blessing 5 houses to the left and 5 houses to the right of your own house every day. It's very easy to do so anyone can do it. He shared a lot of stories about this, either in his talk, or from the videos he showed. Most of these were miracles-to-conversion stories (or coincidences if you're a skeptic). One of the stories was how they prayed for a waitress at a restaurant which completely moved her because nobody had ever prayed for her before. She told the other waiters and they had like 8 conversions that night. Another story was how there was this gay parade in Argentina and at first they were discouraged, but they realized that they did ask for God for sinners. They basically asked the people at the parade for stuff Christians had done to them, which surprised people. They were tested and asked if the parade could go through them, and they said yes, and they used the opportunity to bless everyone that went through. One of the things he mentioned around this time is that Jesus never told sinners to repent in the Bible. The difference is that while Jesus did not approve of sin, he was reconciled with the sinners. Anyway, it was generally stuff like that.

After the event, Joyce met up with some people from her church and she got her book autographed by Ed. After we left, we went around blessing everything around us while in the car. Prayer driving. It was actually kinda fun. :)

My thoughts

To be honest, I was actually kinda critical for most of it. Both Ed and Bishop hold standard conservative Christian views. i.e. their example of Hawaii being a liberal state was that it had the first abortion clinic, and they referenced the recent same-sex marriage ruling in California as bad, along with the obvious asking for sinners and being caught in the gay parade. He was also a McCain supporter as he talked about how it was great that Pawlenty would probably be his VP. If you've read my blog for a while, you'd know I generally have a more liberal view on these issues. :P

But I really liked his point about about being reconciled with sinners. It showed a different mindset than the standard fire-and-brimstone "Repent or you are going to hell" type stuff I would've expected from people who held those views. The thing about Jesus never asking sinners to repent was useful info too.

I also noticed a contradiction about what he said. He divided the chapters in Luke into a hostile spiritual climate phase, and a favorable spiritual climate phase, with chapter 10 telling us to go out to the field and harvest people. One of his points was that Jesus was casting out demons in the first half, but no longer needed to do so in the second half. But one of the lines he did not quote from the second half mentioned that Jesus was actually still casting out demons. Not a big deal, just something I noticed.

Bishop Mclaughlin was the standard charismatic preacher type. Kinda like Jeremiah Wright, but more sane. :P That means they speak faster and faster and louder and louder until they reached a climax. This also means that it tended to get a little long-winded. Much of the audience really got into it, with lots of approving shouts and mutters, people raising their hands up spontaneously and shaking their hands or head, and some crying. Yeah... that kinda stuff just doesn't work for me. :P I did participate most of the time when asked to raise my hand or say something, but if it took too long, I started to feel a little silly. But sometimes it worked, like when we blessed the people around us, which I saw as a friendly, communal thing to do. I think it's because my approach to faith is mainly intellectual rather than emotional, though I've certainly had a few emotional experiences.

There were a few things that the speakers said that I found rather odd. In one example, Ed talked about bringing a Mormon to the kingdom of God, essentially implying that Mormons aren't Christians, which is certainly debatable. Bishop had an eyebrow-raising moment when he talked about genocide. By that, he meant the high incarceration rates of black men which leads to children being raised without their fathers which causes problems for them. I'm not convinced genocide is the proper word to use there. I can believe that racism has a lot to do with it, but I think it's more of a self-perpetuating cycle now. Also, the video they showed with people going on prayer walks to help transform a crime-ridden neighborhood was done pretty much entirely by men. Where were the women? In one of their examples of success, they talked about how a small town was getting, among other things, national chains. Err... having lived in the liberal centers of the Bay Area for so long, I've generally seen people regard national chains as a bad thing. :P

Other happenings

For lunch, Joyce and I went to ZUNI Cafe as it had been recommended by the pastor of the church where the seminar was held, and Joyce had heard about it too. We got lucky and didn't have to wait for a table. The group of 4 that came after us was told they'd need to wait 45 minutes. However, we did have to quite a while for our food, and they even came out to apologize to us twice, which we thought was a nice touch. It certainly contributed to their tip. :P The complimentary bread wasn't that special. The rabbit salad was good, but I think Joyce didn't like the onions on it. The pizza special was very good, probably because of the thin crust. The only bad thing was part of it was kinda burnt on one side. Finally, the shoestring potatoes I really enjoyed. Kinda expensive at $6 though. Our total including tip was $44, which wasn't too bad. We ended up taking half an hour longer than we were supposed to, but I don't think we really missed anything.

After the event, we went to Japantown to catch the last of the Asian Heritage Street Celebration. It's too bad that a lot of the people were already packing up, but we did catch quite a few interesting things. The first thing we noticed were all the cars there, a few of which looked kinda cool (and expensive. We also got a free taste of Starbuck's new Mint Moca Chip Frappuccino, as well as a sample of an incredibly expensive fruit blend health drink ($45 for non-members, $23 for members?! I'd rather get Jamba Juice). There were a couple live bands, including Random Ninjas, who I saw at my first real anime convention. :P I think I'd be more willing to get their CD if they just put more tracks on one CD. 4 song albums feel kinda meh to me. We had some bbq chicken and pork skewers for dinner from one of the stalls there. After that we explored the inside of Japantown. So Manga Cafe Mika is finally open. I think they reduced the price a little but the drinks aren't free after all. Joyce was able to get one of her missing Detective Conan books from Kinokuniya. :)

I want to share with you some intricate pleasures that I found online, tell me what you think.

These are some unique snow globes that I found online recently. I thought that I would share them with you here. The first one is of the Nativity: The tallness and intricate detail is gorgeous to admire. Click here for Source

The second one is a silver disney globe ontop of a piano. I appologize for the stretched look, but the original picture was very small. I just love snow globes that are a little different than the regular ones you can purchase at a souvenir shop... though I do have some of those too. Click here for Source

The third one is a giant habitable snow globe created by Sears in NY. When I came across this one, I just had to add it to my site. I wish that I could have been there to see it. "Inside a couple chats, wraps presents, hangs decorations, makes snacks and other general holiday activities..." for more Click here for Source

I wonder how many snow globe collectors there are??? It is funny because I really wasn't aware that I collected them until I got to about 30 snow globes or so. Doh! Well, I hope that you enjoy the pics and subscribe to see more as I post them.

I was reminiscing today about a first date I had back in the late summer/early fall of 1991. I had only spoke to her on the phone previous to this time, until this one day she came to my work to meet me. Since I’m a chicken shit for the most part, I was loving it. I offered to take her to lunch and she accepted.

I worked in downtown Boston at that time, a few doors down from the old Boston Garden. At that time the Grateful Dead were in town, and the Deadheads had conglomerated amongst the entire area, from Canal st to Friend st. It was a wild week. The smell of incense and pot were in the air all week and permeated in your clothes.

I also had the pleasure of witnessing a couple having sex in the back of a van. There’s nothing quite like the quick glimpse of the back of a man’s ass. Why couldn’t the girl be on top for christ’s sake?? I’ll never get that view out of my head. It’s kind of like when my pal Steve & I rented Shaft in Africa. If we knew Roundtree was going to run around with a spear shaking his bare ass at us, we might have rented Coffy instead. Sheesh.

So I had to bring this girl to lunch by weaving through the crowd of tie dyes to bring her to eat. After lunch, we headed back to my place of employment. On the way, this fella named Steve stopped us. (not to be confused with the Roundtree ass-hating, friend Steve). I am NOT exaggerating when I tell you that this guy hadn’t showered in a LONG time. His hair was matted down so much it could have passed for a Speedo swim cap. He had only 2-3 teeth total that I saw when he opened his mouth. He was wearing this brown corduroy number from the 70’s. He could have passed for a shorter, dirtier hippy version of Joe Buck.

We had a interesting exchange. He had a heavy drawl and at that time I had a ‘wicked’ bad Boston accent. It went something like this:

Steve: “Hah! Ah’m Steve…. Ah hitchhahked all da way from Virgin-yee”.

Jeff: “Hi Steve. How ah you?”

Steve: “Great! Can ah read yeeou a po-em?”

Jeff: “Shu-ah”

So, he reads the poem to us. I can only paraphrase it for you and give you a small piece. It went something like this:

“FUCK the government. FUCK the government. FUCK the government. FUCK those of you who take from society”.

I think you get the point.

Jeff: “Wow! That was awesome, Steve. Would you take a couple of dollahs fah reading it?”

Steve: “Ah would be much appreciative. Thank ye”.

I gave him a few bucks and then went to shake his hand. When I did, I was overwhelmed with horror to find that the man had NO thumb on his right hand. There was just a tiny stub there. I’m glad I didn’t do the slide-in handshake, where your hand slides in for a strong shake. Otherwise, I would have had the unpleasant encounter with the stub. Luckily I just went for the soft approach so I was able to notice the handicap. I ended up shaking the tops of his four fingers.

As we were walking away I was stupefied. I had shaken a dirty hand and I couldn’t wait to get to work to wash up. This to be no offense to good ol’ Steve, mind you. I have OCD as you now know.

Well, I wasn’t much different back then. Well, at least that girl ended up being my girlfriend… I can handle extra wash time for that.

When I tell most people this story, they ask me what I thought happened to his thumb. I never really thought about that. But I did always wonder how the guy hitchhiked.

Okay guys, I am back again ( Nite outs can really get boring :( ).Since , I have nothing to talk about, I will talk about myself and my second year at IIIT-H (Don't worry, its not that boring :D and I would keep it very short).

As this year began , I was quite excited ( Why ? Obviously, third sem is the easiest one, hence excited at the prospect of having a lot of rest ), but turned out that it wasn't ; on the contrary, a busy one for me atleast. Listed below are some of the milestones achieved by me this year :-

TECHNICAL

Participated in my first ACM Regionals (Kanpur). As always , JUST missed out on a chance of participating in World Finals.

Won in many programming contests ( with decent amount of cash ;) ).

Organized first international event of my life ( CodeCraft : http://felicity.iiit.ac.in/codecraft and Mathematika : http://felicity.iiit.ac.in/~math ) .

Improved rating on Topcoder ( AnshAryan ) ( though had to move away from spoj ). Began with projecteuler ( Number Theory :D ).

PERSONAL

Watched lots ( I really mean it ) of Movies and TV shows.

Had the experience of sleeping at every part of day and night ( had really awful schedule in the third sem , and having it again :( ) . I remember sleeping in PK Reddy's class on the first seat ( Not my fault you see. I did a nite out and with the ways of his, I couldn't help ).

Got to meet few of my ideals ( in programming ) at ACMs.

Managed another year with CG above 9.

Skipped Midsems ( that really felt awesome ) ( don't take it the wrong way, It was kind of officially approved bunking ;) ).

Okay , thats it. No more of this junk.

As a fairly new AT&T Tilt user, I found an excellent set of tips on optimizing the phone.

http://www.pocketables.net/

http://www.pocketables.net/2008/01/10-tips-on-fixi.html

While all of the advice has been invaluable to ensuring my happiness with this phone, one of the most incredible finds was WMWiFiRouter which is a piece of software that runs on my Tilt and turns it into a wireless access point. That means, that I can SIMPLY connect my laptop to my phone wirelessly and use the 3G network or whatever wireless network I'm on at the moment. While I haven't tried it yet, I would assume that my phone could act as a wireless access point to several laptops all within range.

I'm travelling at the moment, and having this capability has been invaluable. Although many hotels/motels offer WiFi access, most require you to pay a fee to utilize it. Right now, I'm making this post on my laptop and using the 3G network on my Tilt. This is great! I don't have to bother with the complexities of Bluetooth pairing on my laptop and Tilt, nor do I have to remember to pack my mini USB cable. My Tilt is sitting on top of the TV plugged into the wall about 20 feet away and the signal is very strong. The software cost approximately $22 on special introductory pricing--normally about $29. The software comes from the UK, so your price depends on the current exchange rate.

I registered her for first time by listening to her latest album Aerial (2005) and also thanks to my friend Susan (thanks!). This lady from UK is really something and if you have not heard about her yet, you have a chance to change that!

To hypocrites,

There's a person I know.
I don't like him...but I don't hate him.
My friends don't like him. They say they hate him.

There's another person I know.
She says she doesn't like the person mentioned above.
I don't dislike her. I don't really mind her.

What annoys me is her moral sense.

So you say you don't like him.
Then why do you dare ask anything form him?
How dare you use him in such a way?

If I were you, I wouldn't ask anything from him.
If you don't like him, honestly and truly, you wouldn't ask anything from him.
Yet you act neutral...I can't see how you could do that.

Things people do and say...makes me feel horrible.
Am I supposed to stand there and watch?
Or am I supposed to stop something?
Sure, I'm not a saint. I'm not a friend of his either.
But what can I say? I am a person.
I have emotion. I have moral. I feel bad for others?

Maybe I'm the clueless one.
Myabe I'm just dumb and not know anything.
But as far as I know, he doesn't deserve everything.
...Possibly half, just because he needs to get some sort of punishment.

I don't really know anymore.
Maybe I am a hypocrite for my ranting. Who knows?

If there's a horrible thing in front of us...
Most of us will say, kill it before any harm is done to us.
But then, how would we ever know anything...about ourselves?

You can never see yourself.
You can only see yourself by refelcting yourself.

On the eyes of others.

From,
Me.
